KUEKA PARK, N.Y. – Hilbert women's soccer took down Keuka 1-0 on the road today.
Grace Zabawa scored the lone goal for the Hawks in the team's opening-game victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Hilbert came out strong in this one, as the Hawks took the first two shots on target of the game.
Zabawa fired a low shot that was saved by Keuka goalkeeper, Sam Pelcher, just five minutes into the game. The women's team kept things going with a
Chloe Champagne shot 12 minutes into the match. After the early surge by the visiting Hawks, it was time for freshman goalkeeper
Jordan Brown to be tested in her first collegiate match. Brown was called upon to make three saves before the 0-0 first half came to a close.
Brown came up big for the Hawks again in the second half with two more early stops. With the game still scoreless thanks to the freshman goalkeeper,
Zabawa found the back of the net to give Hilbert the 1-0 lead. Junior,
Hannah Brock, set up the
Zabawa strike following a Hawks' corner kick.
Facing a one goal deficit, the Wolves threw everything they could at
Brown's net. Following the goal, she made six key saves for the Hawks to preserve the lead and earn the shutout.
