Women's Volleyball Releases 2023 Game Schedule

7/17/2023 5:30:00 PM

HAMBURG, N.Y. - Head coach Calvin Crosby enters his third season guiding the Hilbert Women's Volleyball program which has shown marked improvement since he took over in 2021.

"Coming off a season of firsts and strong headway with a young team last year, the women's team is excited about our potential in 2023," said Crosby.  "The veteran players who gained valuable experience last season will blend well with a strong class of incoming transfers and freshmen, and, together, we are focused on earning a playoff bid without a single senior on the team."

Hilbert will prep for the season with a scrimmage against Buffalo State University, the only other Division III institution in Erie County, on August 29th.

The Hawks will host a double-head home opener the first weekend of the academic semester when they battle SUNY Cobleskill in back-to-back matches September 2nd.   Hilbert rolls through another three-date series of games in the Hafner when they welcome Houghton (Sep 5), a trimatch with SUNY Potsdam and La Roche (Sep 9) and finally another non-conference match against Lycoming (Sep 12).

The North Country Classic (Sep 15 and 16), Houghton (Sep 20), and a trimatch at Waynesburg (Sep 30) will help the Hawks prepare for the grind of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference schedule.

Hilbert begins AMCC play at the reigning-league champs, Alfred State on October 4th.  They will also travel to Pitt-Greensburg (Oct 14), Penn State Behrend (Oct 25) and to Pittsburgh to face Carlow University, a first-year league opponent, in the final game of the regular season on November 4th.

The White and Royal will host five home league opponents beginning with back-to-back matches against Penn State Altoona (Oct 7) and a first-year conference foe, Wells College (Oct 11).  They will welcome Pitt-Bradford (Oct 17), La Roche (Oct 21), and Mount Aloysius (Oct 29) before they close the home portion of their schedule with a non-conference match against Fredonia State November 1st.

The top six teams in the league advance to the AMCC post-season tournament which begins with First Round games (3rd – 6th seeds) Wednesday, November 8th.  The AMCC semifinals will be played Saturday, November 11th at the No. 1 seeded team's campus, and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament will be awarded to the victor in the AMCC title game November 12th.
