ERIE, PA - The Hilbert College Softball team traveled today to take on Penn State Behrend in their second AMCC double header of the season. In both games of the double header today Penn State Behrend managed to take an early and large lead and never looked back.

Game One: Hilbert 1 - Penn State Behrend 16

Game Two: Hilbert 0 - Penn State Behrend 11

Game One:

• The Hawks struggled at the start of the game going the first two innings without earning a single hit. In the same period of time though Behrend was able to score two runs in the bottom of the first and three runs in the bottom of the third. 

• Brittany McAndrews was the first Hawk to reach first base. She reached on an error by the third baseman. She eventually worked her way to second where Makenna Smith hit a double to right center field to earn an RBI and the Hawks only run of the game. Behrend answered back strongly though with a ten hit, nine run inning.

• The Hawks were only able to earn one more hit in the final two innings of the game. Bailey Budziszewski was able to hit a double down the left field line but the Hawks were unable to turn that into a run. 

• Behrend was able to score two more runs in their final at bats which eventually put the game away in the fifth inning by a score of 16-1.

Game Two: 

• Over the first two innings of the game the Hawks were unable to earn a hit. Penn State Behrend on the other hand scored two runs in the first inning and earned five hits and seven runs in the second to make the score 11-0.

• In the top of the third inning Morgan Ebert earned the first hit of the game for the Hawks hitting a single to left center field. Behrend played solid defense after that and left her stranded on first. The Hawks played well defensively though in the bottom of the third putting all three batters down with ground outs to shortstop Chloe Champagne.

• Mackenzie Catan led off the fourth for the Hawks and earned a single with a hit to left center field. She eventually advanced to second base but again was left on base after three quick outs. The Hawks continued their strong defensive play from last inning putting all three batters in order again. This meant the Hawks would need to score four runs in the top of the fifth to keep the game going. 

• Hilbert would be unable to score any runs though in the top of the fifth and the game ended 11-0.

Next game for the Hilbert College softball team will be their first home double header of the season. The game will be played on Tuesday at 3:00 and 5:00 PM against Houghton College.
