Baseball Loses Nine Inning Game To Keuka

GOWANDA, N.Y. - Today the Hilbert College baseball team traveled to Gowanda High School to play a single nine inning game against Keuka College. The Hawks played well and stayed in the game for a long period of time. Eventually though Keuka was able to grow their lead and the Hawks could not claw their way back into it.

Final: Hilbert 2 - Keuka 7

How It Happened

  • Keuka College started the game hitting and Andrew Cole started on the mound for the Hawks. Keuka managed to get a few runners on base but with the help of catcher Griffin McAndrews, who caught someone stealing second and a couple strikeouts were able to get out of the first still even with two runners left on base. The Hawks were able to tally one run with their first at bats with Patrick Whelan hitting a single which brought in Jairo Santos

  • The Hawks were held to only one hit in the next three innings with Thomas Evans hitting a single to the second basemen. They were unable to score any more runs while their counterparts managed to tally four runs in the same amount of time.

  • The Hawks utilized multiple pitchers in this outing. Ronald Mort came in during the fourth inning and in the fifth Zackory Panfil took over for him. The Hawks in the bottom of the fifth inning tallied two hits with Jairo Santos hitting a single and John Watson hitting a double, but again they were unable to bring them home.

  • In the sixth and seventh innings the Hawks were held hitless again. Keuka managed to score one run in the sixth inning. Blaine Morgan took over on the mound in the seventh inning and Keuka was able to score one run then as well to make it 6-1 going into the eighth.

  • Matthew Whelan came into the game to pitch for the Hawks. Keuka was able to earn one more run in the eighth inning. The Hawks answered back though with a run of their own. Jack Duffek hit a single to left field which brought in Jairo Santos to make the score 7-2.

  • Hilbert played well defensively in the top of the ninth to keep their hopes alive. They were unable to score any runs though in the bottom of the ninth and they lost 7-2.
