GOWANDA, N.Y. – The Hilbert Baseball team hosted Penn State Behrend in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference double header at Gowanda High School this afternoon.
The Hawks split the series winning the early game, 6-2, before dropping the nightcap 8-3.
Game 1:
Thomas Evans poked a homer,
Michael Contini picked up the win and
Brendan Walsh was credited with another save in the win.
Hilbert took a 5-2 lead through four innings and tacked on one more run in the 6th.
Patrick Whelan went 4-for-4, scored once and drove in one run.
Alex Ellison finished with two hits and 2 RBIs while Evans went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and one RBI.
Contini, who saw four innings of work, allowed three hits, two earned runs, walked three and struck out three. Walsh took care of the final two innings striking out four.
Game 2:
After playing to a 3-3 score, the Lions took a one run lead in the sixth and added to it in the seventh and eighth.
Alex Ellison singled to center scoring
Jairo Santos in the 2nd and
Griffin McAndrews double knocked in
Patrick Whelan and Evans in the 3rd.
McAndrews was the only Hawk to earn two hits in the night cap. He was joined by Evans and Whelan with doubles.
John Watson and
Jairo Santos were credited with a stolen base.
