BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Hilbert College Baseball team recorded their second DH sweep against Medaille University this afternoon as the Hawks honored the graduating class of 2023 prior to the start of the series played at Color Park.
The Hawks earned an 8-0 opening win before taking the 13-4 nightcap sweep.
Seniors
Zackory Panfil,
Michael Contini,
Josh McTigue,
Frank McCabe,
Thomas Evans and
Patrick Whelan were recognized for their contributions to the program prior to the
senior dads throwing out the first pitch to their graduating sons.
Game 1:
Hilbert jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings and then finished their scoring by the bottom of the fourth for their second shutout win this season.
Zackory Panfil tossed his second complete game and first shutout this year while allowing seven hits, three walks and striking out two.
The Hawks, who were held to eight hits, were led by
John Riviere-Vejas who returned to action for the first time in several weeks producing two hits, one RBI and scored one run.
Patrick Whelan went 2-for-3 and
Thomas Evans' one double knocked in two of his 3 RBI while
Emmanuel McClain's triple plated 3 RBI.
Game 2:
The Hawks quickly built a 4-run lead in the 1st and stretched it to 10-0 by the end of the fourth. The Mavericks pushed two runs in both 5th and 6th innings but never recovered in the late-night game under the lights.
Ronald Mort evened his record at 1-1 with four strong innings of work, striking out four, while allowing three hits and three walks.
Patrick Whelan went 3-for-5, collecting a double and triple while also scoring a pair of runs and plated three runners.
John Riviere-Vejas and
Jairo Santos each earned two hits and 2 RBI while
Jack Duffek recorded two RBIs off his one hit day.

Hilbert (22-14, 7-5 AMCC) will travel to Mount Aloysius College this weekend. The Hawks are fighting for a top four seed and the right to host the First Round play-off series next Saturday, May 6th.
