Hawks Softball Loses Double Header

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Hilbert College Softball team continued on with their trip in Myrtle Beach today at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic. Today they took on Eastern Nazarene College and Cazenovia College.

The Hawks struggled in their first game of the day against Eastern Nazarene losing by a score of 17-3 after the game was called after 5 innings. In the second game of the day though the Hawks managed to win their first game of the season 10-2.

Game One: Hilbert 3 - Eastern Nazarene 17

Game Two: Hilbert 2 - Cazenovia 10

Game One:

  • Eastern Nazarene started out the game hot, scoring 6 runs in the first inning of the game and managing to hold Hilbert to none. Despite not getting any runs Hilbert did manage to get a couple of runners on base.

  • Bailey Budziszewski and Brionna Raiser-Russell both pitched today. They both earned one strikeout in the loss.

  • Hilbert held off Eastern Nazarene's offense in the second inning only allowing 2 runs but in the third they brought the heat again scoring 7 more times. The Hilbert offense continued to struggle as they were held scoreless through the first 3 innings.

  • In the fourth Hilbert got all 3 of their runs. The first run was scored by MaKenna Smith who stole second base and eventually made it home on an error by the catcher. Later on in the inning Victoria Hanley and Emma Gionta both advanced on a wild pitch and eventually made it home to score Hilbert's final runs of the game.

  • Hilbert needed to play perfect in the fifth inning to have a chance to continue on with the game but eventually it would be called and they would lose 17-3.

Game Two:

  •  The Hawks again found themselves down early in the second game of the day allowing 3 runs in the first inning. Hilbert was unable to get anyone on base and as a result they were trailing.

  • The Hawks played well defensively in the second inning with Brittany McAndrews pitching. They only allowed one hit but it was more of the same for the Hawks on offense with only one player reaching first as well.

  • The Hawks continued to play strong defensively over the next 2 innings only letting one player record a hit. The Hawks continued to struggle in the batters box though and the score remained 3-0 going into the fifth inning.

  • In the fifth inning the Hawks were finally able to get something going. Mackenzie Catan hit a single which brought in Brittany McAndrews and Leandra Cruz to make it a 3-2 game. This was until Cazenovia put together a good inning for themselves scoring 2 more runs. This led to Cazenovia scoring 5 times in the bottom of the 6th after the Hawks could not score which effectively ended the game.
