Ashley Schroeder Reaches 1000 Points In Hawks Win

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College Women's Basketball team hosted the AMCC Game Of the Week against Alfred State College tonight and the Hawks came out on top with a 50-40 victory.

Senior Ashley Schroeder notched her 1,000 career point late in the third quarter as she helped the Hawks split the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference with the Pioneers this winter.  A-State captured a 49-40 victory at home earlier in January.

HIGHLIGHTS
Mackenzie Catan led the Hawks in scoring today with 16 points, 15 of those points came from beyond the 3 point line. She also recorded 5 steals today. Alesia Hamm led the Hawks in rebounds with 12 while also picking up 8 points and 5 assists. Ashley Schroeder also contributed today with a stat line of 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ashley Schroeder started the Hawks off strong today where she scored the first points of the game on a layup. She would then take 2 charges back to back to cause turnovers. A couple minutes later Maria Spinelli would grab an offensive rebound and score on a layup to make it a 4 point game. The Hawks would continue to have a strong start with Monika Allen scoring back to back for the Hawks.
  • Mackenzie Catan had a great second quarter hitting from deep 3 separate times to give 9 points up until the end of the first half. Belle Oakley would also add a tally of her own this quarter to start off her night on the scoresheet. The Hawks would head into the second half with the lead 23-21.
  • Belle Oakley started the third quarter scoring for the hawks with a made layup to put the Hawks up by 4. A string of good play by Alfred State though would put them in the lead for the first time. Until Ashley Schroeder made a jumper outside the paint for her 1000th point which also regained the lead for Hilbert.
  • The Hawks would go on to hold onto their lead for the rest of the game with Mackezie Catan continuously hitting from three point range. The final nail in the coffin was from Chloe Champagne who hit a baseline jumper with 26 second remaining.

GAME NOTES
Today the Hawks shot 19 for 62 while also going 5 for 17 from 3 point range and 7 for 17 at the free throw line. The Hawks also managed to outrebound Alfred State which helped them to the win.
