Hawks Lose Big At La Roche

PITTSBURGH, P.A.- The Hilbert College Women's Basketball team traveled to La Roche today in their final meeting of the season. They ended up losing by a score of 72-44. This brings the Hawks AMCC record to 4-8.

HIGHLIGHTS

Ashley Schroeder led the Hawks in scoring with 18 points and she also managed to wrangle in 5 rebounds. Monika Allen led the Hawks with 6 rebounds and put up the second most points on the team today with 9. Alesia Hamm got 8 points while also getting 5 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Ashley Schroeder started out the scoring for the Hawks today as she earned a trip to the free throw line and made 1 of her 2 shots then just a minute later hitting both of her free throws to get the Hawks first 3 points. La Roche went on a 10-0 run until Mackenzie Catan hit a jump shot. This string of good play by La Roche gave them a 20-8 lead going into the second quarter.

  • Monika Allen and Mackenzie Catan started the quarter for the Hawks with a made layup and jumpshot. This was the only scoring for the Hawks this quarter until Grace Zabawa made a layup to stop an 8-0 run with 2 minutes remaining. La Roche continued to pile on the pressure which led to them having the lead 37-14.

  • After the break La Roche did not let up, coming out strong to start the third quarter. After 3 minutes of play Ashley Schroeder broke the silence of Hilbert with a made jumpshot. Towards the end of the third quarter La Roche was up big with a 32 point lead.

  • After only 13 seconds into the fourth quarter Alesia Hamm was fouled and sent to the line where she would make both her free throws. This would spark Hilbert as they began to play better and better with Mackenzie Catan and Ashley Schroeder both making 3 point shots and cutting down the lead to 18 points. After this though it was all La Roche as they would go on 14 point run that would effectively end the game.

GAME NOTES

La Roche earned many of their points off of the ability to score off of a turnover where they got 27 to Hilbert's 11. They also were better in the turnover category where Hilbert had 31 and La Roche had 14. The Hawks shot 12 of 37, 2 of 10 from 3 point range and 18 of 24 from the free throw line.
