Hawks Earn Huge AMCC Win At Home

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Today the Hilbert College Women's Basketball team took on AMCC opponent, University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, at home. This is their second and final meeting of the year, last time around they won a close knit game 55-52. In their second last game of the season the Hawks won 61-38.

HIGHLIGHTS
Ashley Schroeder led the Hawks in scoring with 30 points while also collecting 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Kelsey Schlagenhauf led the Hawks collecting 15 rebounds with Alesia Hamm and Monika Allen contributing as well with 8 and 7.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Chloe Champagne started the scoring in the game after being fouled on her way to the hoop and she managed to make 1 of her 2 shots. Quickly after Mackenzie Catan got her first points of the game making a layup. The Panthers stayed in a zone defense the whole first quarter but could not stop Hilbert's offense. It was a close first quarter that saw the Hawks up by 1.
  • McKenzie Walker started the quarter off hot after hitting a 3 only 14 seconds in. The second quarter is where Ashley Schroeder really began to take over the game as she would score 9 of Hilbert's 12 points and help them to a 24-18 lead going into halftime.
  • Hilbert had a great third quarter that saw them go on a 12-0 run and helped them gain a big lead. This run was highlighted by Grace Zabawa who made 6 consecutive points for the Hawks all off of free throws.
  • For a moment in the fourth it looked as if the visiting Panthers would be able to make a comeback as they dropped Hilbert's lead to only 8 points. This was until the Hawks managed to go on another double digit run that shut down any chance the Panthers thought they had. The final quarter was filled with free throws for the Hawks and they managed to make 12 of 12 which was a huge boost and ultimately led them to the victory.

GAME NOTES
Hilbert gained a large margin in their ability to cause turnovers and turn those into points as they collected 23 points off of turnovers. They were also able to hit 25 of 28 free throws which accounted for almost half of their points. The Hawks shot 16 for 57 while also shooting 4 for 16 from 3 point range.
