Men's Basketball Extends Win Streak to Six Games

BRADFORD, PA – For the second game in a row, Hilbert Men's Basketball went on the road and won the Allegheny Mountain Conference Game of the Week. This week's installment featured the Hawks and the hosting Pitt Bradford Panthers. A balanced scoring attack led Hilbert to the 76-71 victory and their third consecutive conference win.

HIGHLIGHTS

Six Hawks scored at least eight points tonight as the Hawks extended their win streak to six games.

Jahmel Demery led the Hawks in both points (15) and rebounds (13), notching his third double-double of the season.

Joining Demery in double figures for the Hawks were Shaheem Ellis (12) and Edward Perez (10).

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Hilbert took an early lead in the contest on a four-point play by Ellis to make it 4-0.
  • The Hawks held a consistent two- or three-point advantage until the Panthers knotted the game up at ten.
  • After tying the game, Pitt Bradford went ahead and maintained the advantage that peaked at seven points all the way until 1:30 left in the half.
  • A pair of Demery free throws tied the game, and a Justin Poumpey point from the charity stripe took the lead with a minute to go.
  • Demery added a jumper with 30 seconds left in the half to give the Hawks a 38-35 advantage heading into the locker room.
  • Hilbert withstood multiple tying buckets by the Panthers early in the second half before extending the lead to ten points with less than ten minutes to go in the game.
  • Bradford began to chip away at the lead in the waning moments of the game, but timely buckets by Demery, Poumpey, Quran Briggs and Kyreese Fisher closed out the game and extended the Hilbert win streak.

GAME NOTES

Ten different Hawks recorded points in the contest, giving Hilbert a 36-14 advantage in bench points.

After taking the lead late in the first half, Hilbert never looked back and did not trail the rest of the game.

Hilbert overcame deficits in paint points and points off turnovers with their success at the free throw line, outscoring the Panthers by 11 (21 to 10)
