Hamm Hits Another Double-Double at Hiram

HIRAM, OH.  – The Hilbert College Women's Basketball team took a 23-19 lead at half time, played to a 33-all score by the end of the third quarter, but only found five points in the final session, dropping a 47-38 non-conference game to Hiram College inside Price Gymnasium tonight.

HIGHLIGHTS

Alesia Hamm recorded her fourth double-double of the season scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, five on the offensive glass.

Mackenzie Catan (7 rebounds) tossed in nine points, hitting 3-of-6 shots from beyond the arc, and Kelsey Schlagenhauf added seven points and seven rebounds

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mackenzie Catan struck from downtown early in the first quarter and Alesia Hamm closed the period with four consecutive points to set the 11-10 score after ten minutes.
  • After Hiram went up by three points just 15 seconds into the second quarter, Kelsey Schlagenhauf and Hamm combined for the four-point run that gave Hilbert a 14-13 lead.  Both teams played through four lead changes with Hamm and Catan finding the bottom of the net for the Hawks before the break.
  • Hilbert continued to control the pace early in the third quarter, building an eight-point lead off a Hamm 3-pointer (31-23) with 5:04 remaining.  The Hawks coughed up the ball on their next five possessions giving the Terriers a chance to take a 32-31 lead at 1:49. Schlagenhauf knotted the score at 33-all before the end of the third quarter.
  • Catan hit her third 3-pointer at 5:55 in the fourth which knotted the game for the final time at 38-38.  The Terriers matched Catan's hit from downtown and then finished the game's scoring all from the foul line.
GAME NOTES
  • The Hawks finished the game hitting 27.3% from the field and were awarded only six free throws, sinking just three, all in the opening quarter.
  • Hilbert secured 43 rebounds, one more than the Terriers but had four of their field goal attempts swatted way.
