BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Hilbert Women's Basketball team, down 32-27 at half time, couldn't hold onto the ball in the third quarter which ultimately led to the 70-40 non-conference loss to Buffalo State University tonight in the Sports Arena.
HIGHLIGHTS
Kelsey Schlagenhauf led the Hawks with 10 points while
Belle Oakley, who connected on 2-of-5 three-pointers added eight points.
Kayla Johnson scored seven points and earned team-high honors with nine rebounds and
Alesia Hamm (7 points) matched
Maria Spinelli with eight rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Buffalo State took an 11-3 lead which caused a Hilbert timeout five minutes into the opening quarter. Avery Cusack's long-distance hit started the 14-0 run that finished with a Belle Oakley 3-pointer, lifting the Hawks 15-11 with :24 clicks on the game clock.
- Alesia Hamm kept the push going, striking another shot beyond the arc early in the second quarter (18-13). The Bengals regained the lead (22-20), but Oakley put the Hawks on top again with her second 3-pointer at 4:39. After Buffalo State tossed in five points, Mackenzie Catan struck again from downtown inching Hilbert into a one-point game at 2:05 before they went cold the last two minutes of the half.
- Hilbert fell in a deep hole by the start of the fourth quarter after committing double digit turnovers while only attempting five field goal attempts. Oakley's free throw at 3:32 turned out to be the only point scored in the third session.
- Schlagenhauf scored all her points in the fourth quarter as the Hawks matched point for point with the Bengals.
GAME NOTES
- Hilbert opened the game hitting 37.5% from the floor and 42.86% in the fourth quarter. Their 0-5 conversion in third quarter dropped their overall shooting percentage to 32.0%.
- The Hawks recorded 46 rebounds, were credited with seven assists and three steals.
- Buffalo State finished the game hitting 38.2% from the field, earning 37 rebounds, 12 assists and 18 steals.
