NORTH ADAMS, MA – Hilbert and Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts Women's Hockey skated to a second consecutive one-goal game this evening. Like last night, it was the hosting Trailblazers that came out on top against the Hawks. MCLA took advantage of each of their three power play opportunities in their 4-3 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first Trailblazer power play came midway through the first period. It looked like Hilbert would kill off the hooking penalty, in large part to six consecutive
Jewely Monford saves while a skater down. However, with three seconds to go in the penalty, MCLA opened the scoring for the second consecutive night.
The lead would be doubled on the only even-strength Trailblazer goal five minutes later. Twelve Monford saves in the opening frame made sure the Hawks ended the period only trailing by a pair.
When the second period began,
Anna Faulkner picked up right where she left off last night. She put home a rebound created by a
Megan Moceri point shot to cut the Trailblazer lead in half six minutes into the period.
The Hawks kept fighting and found the tying goal off some nice passing in the MCLA zone.
Caitlin Conrad and
Abby MacNeil's work on the boards led to a
Sophia Perry shot from the slot that found the back of the net midway through the contest.
Another power play chance for the Trailblazers helped them regain the lead. This time it took just nine seconds for the hosts to find the back of the net and make it a 3-2 game heading into the third period.
Once again, Hilbert came out strong to begin the third period, and earned themselves a powerplay opportunity. The work of
Kaitlin Cowie and Faulkner in the faceoff circle won the initial draw back to
Jacqueline Alaburda, who fired a shot past the MCLA goalie to tie the game at three.
A third and final MCLA power play of the game resulted in the eventual game winning goal. Similar to the first power play, it took until under five seconds in the extra player opportunity for the hosts to light the lamp.
Despite pulling Monford in favor of an extra attacker, Hilbert was unable to find an equalizer and dropped the weekend series 0-2.
GAME NOTES
- Monford made 32 saves in net.
- Two more assists extended Cowie's point streak to four games (2G, 4A).
- Faulkner added two more points to her five on the year.
