CANTON, N.Y. – Hilbert College didn't allow a little Thanksgiving break to interrupt their rhythm as the Men's Basketball team extended their non-conference win streak with a 77-66 victory at SUNY Canton this afternoon.
Hilbert converted 7-of-10 at the foul line to pull out the win as four Hawks notched double digit scoring.
HIGHLIGHTS
Jahmel Demery recorded his 6th career and second double-double of the season leading Hilbert with 15 points and a game-high 18 rebounds. The senior forward made 4-of-9 from the floor and hit 7-of-9 at the foul line while controlling the boards with 14 defensive rebounds.
Shaheem Ellis led all scorers with 18 points and
Eric Jackson added two blocks and 15 points, hitting 7-of-10 from the field.
Kyreese Fisher distributed seven assists in 24 minutes and
Justin Poumpey added another four assists off the bench.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ellis drilled the first shot from downtown just 44-seconds into the game and Quran Briggs lifted the Hawks to a 5-2 lead at 18:29.
- The Roos regained the lead twice more before the break, but Hilbert used a 7-2 run to close the half before Canton knocked down a 3-pointer with 2-seconds left, setting the 35-31 score at intermission.
- Hilbert extended their lead to nine points after three different trips before they stretched the difference to 11 off a pair of Demery makes at the charity stripe. Demery recorded the next five points setting a 14-point spread with just over ten minutes left.
- The Hawks suffered a turnover bug and misfires from the floor as Canton inched closer, pulling within six points.
- Ellis, Jackson and Edward Perez finished the Hilbert push to a double digit lead again as the Hawks held on for their road win.
GAME NOTES
- Hilbert's depth of talent continues to show in the box score. The Hawks bench almost doubled SUNY Canton's reserves (32-18) while matching the Roos in almost every other category.
- Eric Jackson's nine points (4-of-6 from the floor) led Hilbert at the break as the Hawks connected on 46.9% of their shots from the field (15-32).
- Hilbert got hot in the second period, sinking 15-of-29 from the floor along with making 11-of-17 at the foul line. Demery produced a double dime second half lifting Hilbert to the win.
- Edward Perez added 10 points, knocking down a shot beyond the arc while shooting 4--for-4 as Hilbert secured their second win over the Roos in two tries.
