Hawks Extend Win-Streak to Four with Win in AMCC Opener

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert Men's Basketball extended their early season win streak to four games tonight with a win over Alfred State. The opening Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game for each team was a back-and-forth affair that ultimately saw the Hawks pull out a 75-71 victory.

HIGHLIGHTS

Eric Jackson had a huge game off the bench for Hilbert, leading the team in points with 17. The senior also added five assists, four rebounds and a pair of steals.
 
Edward Perez and Quran Briggs each scored in double digits for the Hawks, with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Perez notched a double-double with 11 rebounds, while Briggs helped close out the game at the line (5-5 in the game).

HOW IT HAPPENED 
 
  • The Visiting Pioneers came out firing from deep, making two early three pointers on their way to a ten-point lead inside the first nine minutes of the contest.
  • A 13-1 run by the Hawks, led by six Jackson points, gave Hilbert its' first lead of the game.
  • Alfred State used the long ball once again to pull ahead, this time by eight points.
  • However, a late first-half run by Hilbert, capped off by a Shaheem Ellis four-point-play cut the Pioneer lead to just one heading into halftime.
  • The visitors grabbed yet another ten-point lead to begin the second half, making it a 51-41 game on a layup with 13 minutes to go in the contest.
  • The Hawks stayed close, and eventually grabbed a 69-68 advantage on a Jackson layup.
  • Briggs and Jackson combined to go 6-6 from the line in the final 30 seconds to close out the game and give Hilbert the important conference win.
 
GAME NOTES 
 
With Jackson leading the way, the Hawks held the advantage in bench points, 35-7. Jahmel Demery contributed to this with an efficient eight points off the bench.

Hilbert used 15 offensive rebounds to create 15 second-chance points for themselves, with Demery (4) and Perez (3) leading the way.
 
UP NEXT

The team will look to continue the win streak and start out 2-0 in the AMCC when they head on the road for a matchup with Penn State Altoona. The game is set to tip off at 3 PM on Saturday at Alder Athletic Complex.
