HAMBURG, N.Y. – Five Hawks notched double digit scoring and a pair of guards dished six assists each as the Hilbert Men's Basketball team recorded a 79-66 non-conference win over Alfred University tonight.
The Hawks shot the ball well, hitting 56.4% from the floor with an impressive 50% beyond the arc as they improved to 3-2 before the Thanksgiving break.
HIGHLIGHTS
Justin Poumpey finished with six assists, two steals, connected on 3-of-5 from the floor and earned game-high honors with two steals while his back court mate
Kyreese Fisher added six assists made his only 3-pointer attempted scoring five points from the floor.
Quran Briggs led the balanced scoring with 14 points (6-for-6 at the foul line), as
Edward Perez added 13 points (6-of-10 from the floor) and led with nine rebounds.
Shaheem Ellis (2-for-3 3-pointers),
Nevada Eldridge (5-for-7 from paint) and
Jahmel Demery (5-for-9 from floor) each chipped in 12 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Alfred started the game fast, hitting the first shot beyond the arc 59-seconds into the game which turned out to be Saxon's largest lead of the night.
- Hilbert took a 17-11 lead but fell behind 22-21 off a deep Alfred make at 8:56.
- Nevada Eldridge made both at the foul line to lift the Hawks into a 9-1 run which put the game away.
- Shaheem Ellis scored a fastbreak layup and Eldridge made a bucket in the paint to build the 12-point margin at the break.
- Alfred came out in a zone defense after the break and the Hawks connected on four consecutive shots, two of which were beyond the arc.
- Hilbert maintained a double digit lead the rest of the way.
GAME NOTES
- Hilbert out rebounded the Saxons (32-24), got 23 points from the bench and scored 34 points in the paint many of them coming off the 17 fast break points.
- 14 different players saw court time for Hilbert, though the Hawks primarily went with an 8-man rotation.

Hilbert (3-2) heads to the north country after the brief Thanksgiving break. The Hawks will battle SUNY Canton Saturday, November 25 in the Roos House.
