Women's Basketball Couldn't Get Over the Hump in the 3-point Loss at Home

HAMBURG, N.Y.  – Hilbert College suffered a 48-45 non-conference loss to Keuka College tonight in the Hafner Recreation Center.

The Hawks fell behind 14-8 after the first 10 minutes but turned up the heat the rest of the game and outscored the Wolves 37-34 before the final horn.

HIGHLIGHTS

Alesia Hamm collected her 11th career double-double with matching 11's from the floor and off the glass in 40-minutes of action.

Chloe Champagne distributed a game-high three assists, scored seven points and grabbed seven rebounds while Kayla Johnson added nine points and a game-high two steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game from start to finish was a fast-paced contest with limited interruptions due to non-shooting fouls.  Only in the final ten-seconds of the game did either team advance to the bonus.
  • Kayla Johnson's made three pointer gave Hilbert the lead in the first three minutes of the game and Avery Cusack's 10-footer flipped the Hawks on top for the final time at 6:05. Champagne's deep make stopped the 10-point run just made by Keuka which set the 14-8 first quarter score.
  • Hilbert battled back from a 10-point deficit (18-8) cutting it to a four-point game at intermission.  Mackenzie Catan drilled a 3-pointer, Kelsey Schlagenhauf made one at the foul line, Hamm scored off an offensive rebound and Schlagenhauf did an offensive rebound put-back for two more which pulled the Hawks within two (18-16).  Both teams traded hoops and Belle Oakley knocked down a deep three from the point to maintain the four-point spread at the break.
  • Hilbert sliced the difference to one point twice in the third quarter but was never able to even the score or take the lead.  Johnson led the Hawks with six points, and Champagne added four.
  • Neither team found their offensive touch in the fourth quarter with Hilbert shooting 2-14 while Keuka went 1-13 from the field.  Hilbert outscored Keuka 4-2 in the final 11 seconds of the game but fell short in their rally for the win.
GAME NOTES
  • Hilbert crushed the Wolves on the glass, out rebounding them 21-4 on the offensive end which led to a 12-2 advantage in 2nd chance points.
  • Keuka, credited with only six steals, recorded 20 points off Hilbert's 15 turnovers.
  • Kelsey Schlagenhauf finished the game with nine rebounds, wiping the offensive end for six boards and Chloe Champagne also finished in the positive on the offensive end, pulling down four of her seven rebounds.
