FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Hilbert College Women's Basketball team opened their season with a 61-38 non-conference road loss to Fredonia State this afternoon.
The Hawks played even with the Blue Devils in the second half, but were unable to dig out of the large half time hole as they moved to 0-1.
HIGHLIGHTS
Freshman
Kayla Johnson led the Hawks in her first outing by scoring 17 points, hitting 9-12 from the foul line, while also recording five steals and five defensive rebounds.
Kelsey Schlagenhauf added nine points, sinking 4-of-8 from the floor and earned nine rebounds while
Alesia Hamm led with 10 rebounds and scored six points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kelsey Schlagenhauf scored the game's first bucket but the Hawks were then held scoreless the next eight minutes before they tallied three free throws to end the opening quarter.
- Three different Hawks scored at the start of the second quarter as they pulled within 11 (11-22) though the Blue Devils built a 19-point spread by intermission.
- Hamm tossed in four points in the third session as Chloe Champagne's bunny in the paint pulled Hilbert within 21 (27-48).
- Schlagenhauf and Johnson combined for the Hawks' 12 points in the fourth quarter in a combination of free throws and layups in the paint.
GAME NOTES
- Hilbert crashed the offensive glass, grabbing 20 boards and held a 15-9 advantage in second-chance points.
- Fredonia held a 30-9 advantage in points off turnovers as the Hawks recorded 29 in the game.
- Hilbert shot 21.8% from the field, and made 14-of-17 free throws (82.4%).
