Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey | | Andrew Loveless

Women's Hockey Bested by Knights

ASTON, PA – For a second straight day, Hilbert Women's Hockey suffered a defeat at the hands of the Neumann University Knights. A dominant special teams performance from the Knights was the difference in their 5-1 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Just like last night, neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first period. Tia Card was called upon plenty, as the Hawks were outshot 14-7 in the opening frame. Five of the seven Hilbert shots came on their lone power play opportunity of the period.

The second period saw Neumann open the scoring once again. After Card opened up the period with seven more stops, the Knights finally broke through and took a 1-0 lead. When it looked like the Knights would head into the locker room up one, Kaitlin Cowie put home her third goal of the season to tie the game at one in the final minute of the period.

The final frame of the weekend series saw each team take a pair of penalties. However, it would be the Knights that would capitalize on their power plays, scoring a goal on each. After killing off Hilbert's 4th and 5th powerplays of the game, and adding in two more even strength tallies, the hosting Knights had skated away with a 5-1 win.

GAME NOTES
  • Card made 39 more saves, for a weekend total of 79 in two games.
  • Cowie now leads the team in both goals and points (3G, 7P).
  • Jacqueline Alaburda took nine shots, while Caitlin Conrad blocked seven.
UP NEXT
The team heads to Geneva, NY for a rare mid-week contest with William Smith College on Tuesday at 7 PM.  The Cooler will play host to the Hawks and the 3-3 Herons.
