Nine Different Hawks Score in Win Over Wells

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert Women's Soccer won in dominant fashion this evening over Wells College. As a team, the Hawks took 67 shots in the contest, with 32 finding the net. Nine different Hawks found the back of the net on their way to an 11-0 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

With most of the play occurring in the end of the Express, the Hawks got an early penalty kick opportunity as Grace Zabawa was fouled in the box. Zabawa stepped up to take the kick, which she buried in the top of the net for the 1-0 lead in the 14th minute. Four minutes later, Hilbert got another one from Freshman Michaela Olson's first career goal. Olson was set up in the box by Zabawa to double the lead. Tahlia Kosek got in on the action with the first of her career just before the half ended. Kosek stole the ball off a Wells' goal-kick and found the back of the net with three seconds remaining in the half.

Hilbert wasted no time adding to their lead when the second half began. Chloe Champagne and Isabelle Hilbert each scored for the Hawks in the first four minutes of the half to make it a 5-0 game. Also scoring the first of her career in the contest was Laura Arnhold. Arnhold put a loose ball in the back of the net for the Hawks' sixth of the game. Gabby Calandra added her first for Hilbert just five minutes later on a well-placed shot to extend the lead. Laura Smith was the only Hawk to score multiple goals in the contest, with three straight goals in a 15-minute span. Wrapping up the scoring for the Hawks was Madison Matuszak, on a long shot that found the back of the net.
