GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Hilbert College Women's Basketball team opened the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference portion of their 2023 game schedule with an 79-52 road loss at Pitt.-Greensburg late this afternoon.
HIGHT LIGHTS
Ashley Schroeder was the solo Hawk to notch double digit scoring after hitting 5-of-17 from the floor and 4-of-8 at the foul line to collect 16 points. She led the Hawks with two blocks and two steals while
Alesia Hamm picked up another eight rebounds to add to her career total.
Freshmen
Kelsey Schlagenhauf and
Monika Allen joined sophomore
Mackenzie Catan as each tallied eight points for Hilbert.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ashley Schroeder lifted the Hawks to a 3-0 lead after drilling her first shot of the game at 9:01 in the opening quarter. Kelsey Schlagengauf added two more points three minutes later and Mackenzie Catan and Grace Zabawa both connect from downtown for the 11-5 Hilbert lead with less than five minutes ticked off the game clock.
- The Hawks offense went cold the rest of the first quarter as Greensburg built a 26-11 margin at the start of the second session.
- The Bobcats maintained their double digit lead in the second quarter but Hilbert matched offensive production while out rebounding the hosts 15-10, with a 7-3 advantage on the offensive glass. Allen scored four points in the 10-minute span to help lift Hilbert to a 41-21 half time margin.
- Hilbert kept pace with the Bobcats with Schroeder and Allen scoring most of the points in the ten-minute third quarter with additional Hawks got involved in the fourth.
- Schroder and Zabawa started the 19-point quarter inside the arc with Catan nailing her second 3-pointers before Talia Kosek scored her first collegiate bucket with 2:38 left in the game. Schlagenhauf closed the scoring for the Hawks with back-to-back buckets before time expired.
GAME NOTES
- Greensburg took advantage of Hilbert's turnovers as they scored 33 points off the Hawks 24 miscues.
- Hilbert finished the game hitting 30% of their field goal attempts, and sinking 10-of-20 shots from the foul line while Greensburg was tagged with 47.6% shooting with a 14-of-15 success rate from the charity stripe.

Hilbert (4-8, 0-1 AMCC) returns the Hafner Recreation Center this weekend to host their first home contest of the 2023 semester. The Hawks welcome Penn State Altoona (4-7, 1-0 AMCC) in a 3:00 pm game.
