Kisner and Whelan Named Hilbert Athletes of the Year

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Juniors Macy Kisner and Patrick Whelan were named the 2022 Hilbert College Athletes of the Year as selected by Hilbert College's head coaches.

5'9 Forward Macy Kisner was a standout leader as a dual-sport athlete driving the women's basketball and soccer teams to success while 6'3 DH Patrick Whelan led the Hawks baseball team and program to new heights this spring.

Macy Kisner (Stanley, N.Y./Midlakes) was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Year and was recognized as a Third Team All-Conference player as she helped propel the women's basketball team (8-18, 7-9 AMCC) back to the postseason tournament (No.4 seed) for the second time in her career.  Kisner led the AMCC in steals (74) and rebounds per game while averaging 13.5 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 1.8 assists per game.  Kisner earned 13 double-doubles and dominated in the Hawks' sweep over Pitt-Bradford when she collected 20 points/20 rebounds and 18 points/20 rebounds.  By the close of the national championship, Kisner was ranked seven times in Division III's top 50, her highest at #26 in Double-Doubles and Rebounds/Game. Kisner also excelled on the soccer pitch helping to lift the Hawks to the program's best season in five years.  Hilbert (4-9-1, 2-5-1 AMCC) suffered four 1-goal setbacks, three in overtime, and finished the season in a 2-way tie for sixth seed but did not advance into postseason after losing the tie-breaker.  She led the Hawks with six goals (12 points) off a team-high 45 shots along with a pair of game winning goals.

Kisner is a 3-time AMCC Academic All-Conference student, a 3x AMCC Peak Performer (3.5+ gpa) and was inducted into the New York Theta Chapter of the Chi Alpha Sigma National Student-Athlete Academic Society in May, 2022.

Patrick Whelan (Buffalo, N.Y./Bishop Timon-St. Jude/Medaille) closed his first year as a Hawk with a bang.  After earning a spot on the AMCC All-Tournament Team and the All-Sportsmanship Team, he was selected to the AMCC All-Conference as a First Team Designated Hitter player and was recognized on the regional stage as an All-Region 7 Second Team player in the D3baseball.com poll.  He led the Hawks in on base percentage (.467), triples (2), RBI and HBP and established new Hilbert baseball Single Season records with 32 Runs Batted In and 12 Hit By Pitch.  Whelan's efforts helped the Hawks set new program records - overall win record (16-20) and AMCC win percentage (8-8) - as they secured the No. 5 seed in postseason tournament. He started 32 games for the Hawks, earned 35 hits, two triples, three home runs, 10 walks, stole two bases while finishing with a .357 average.  His biggest game of the season was against future AMCC-champs Mount Aloysius when he went 4-for-4 with a double, a walk, an RBI and one run scored.

Whelan was an AMCC Academic All-Conference student, an AMCC Peak Performer (3.5+ gpa) and was also inducted into the New York Theta Chapter of the Chi Alpha Sigma National Student-Athlete Academic Society this spring.
