Auburn, N.Y. - The Hilbert College baseball team battled through rainy conditions to come away with a hard fought split against Sage College on Sunday afternoon.

Game 1: Hilbert 8, Sage 4
Game 2: Sage 8, Hilbert 5

Game One:
* Michael Contini took the mound for his second start of the season in game one. The southpaw held the Gator hitters scoreless in three of his four innings pitched. 
* Hilbert's offense went to work early, scoring a run in the first and tacking on four more in the second by way of an unearned run followed by a John Riviere-Vejas RBI single and an Angelo DiNizo 2-RBI double. 
* Both starters would blank the offenses over the next two innings before the Hawks attack added to their total in the fifth and sixth innings to go up 8-3. 
* Reliever Brendan Walsh closed it out for the Hawks to secure his first save of the season. 
* Michael Contini picked up the win on the mound after tossing four innings allowing one earned run with one walk and a pair of strikeouts. Walsh notched the save after tossing three innings of one hit ball and tallying four strikeouts. 
* John Riviere-Vejas continued his strong play at the dish going 3 for 3 with a double, three runs scored and three stolen bases. Meanwhile, Angelo DiNizo had a multi-hit game with a double and plated three.
Game Two:
* Santino Turello made his first start of the season on the mound in game two. The right-hander tossed 2.2 innings allowing just one earned run and tallied three strikeouts. 
* It was a pitchers duel in the early going as both Turello and the Sage starter kept the offense to a minimum resulting in a 2-2 score heading into the sixth. 
* Both offenses caught fire over the final two frames as Sage put up six runs and Hilbert scored three runs off a 2-RBI single from Jairo Santos and a Patrick Whelan sac fly to plate John Riviere-Vejas in the final frame. 
* Blaine Morgan and Zackory Panfil logged scoreless appearances in relief. 
* Patrick Whelan had the lone multi-hit game in game two, including a double and a pair of RBI. 
Up Next:
* Hilbert heads back home for the next few days before retaking the field at Houghton College on Saturday at 12pm.
