Women's Basketball Picks Up A 64-25 Win At Wells

AURORA, N.Y.  – After building a 34-9 half time lead, the Hilbert College Women's Basketball team coasted to a 64-25 non-conference victory over Wells College tonight.

All 16 Hawks filled the stat sheet in the first 20 minutes of action and finished with 12 players tossing in four points or more by the final horn.

HIGHT LIGHTS

Mackenzie Catan led the Hawks with 12 points, hitting .500-percent beyond the 3-point line while Ashley Schroeder added nine points and led with five assists.

Macy Kisner and Alesia Hamm each netted six points and pulled down a team-best seven rebounds in limited action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Wells (0-8) spotted the Hawks 18 points before they found their first jumper in the paint with 3:49 remaining in the first quarter.  Mackenzie Catan drilled back-to-back shots from beyond the arc and Macy Kisner scored a pair in the paint while four other Hawks chipped in during that 18-point opening run.
  • Hilbert, leading 17-6 at the start of the second session, went on another long run, building a 31-6 advantage before the Express went 1-for-2 at the charity stripe to score their first point in the quarter.  McKenzie Walker scored the Hawks' final three points in the half to help set the 25-point half time spread (34-9).
  • Hilbert went back to their starters in the third quarter, and they earned a 40-10 margin before players from the bench joined the action after half time.  Grace Zabawa hit a shot from downtown and Kelsey Schlagenhauf's layup lit the score board lights at 51-15 after 30 minutes of action.
  • Ashley Schroeder knocked down a 3-pointer just 68-seconds into the fourth quarter and Jocelyn Poindexter's layup created the largest margin (45-points) with over six minutes remaining in the game.
GAME NOTES
  • Hilbert's defense held the Express to 25 points off 10-of-52 shooting (19.2%) while the Hawks connected on 27-of-73 shots from the field (37.0%).  Each team was awarded 12 free throws with Hilbert sinking six and Wells connecting on five.
  • Hilbert scored 32 points off Wells' 24 turnovers and the Hawks earned 25 offensive rebounds which they turned into 19 second chance points.
