Hawks Defeat Medaille At Home

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert College's Women's Basketball team faced off against Medaille in the Hafner Recreation Center tonight.

It was a close game from beginning to end. Hilbert's strong performance on both ends of the court led to them winning the game 65-59.

Despite the close finish Hilbert had the lead for almost the whole game. Medaille held a 3 point lead until 3 minutes in the game. Hilbert took the lead and did not give it up the rest of the way.

HIGHLIGHTS
Macy Kisner came off the bench and led the team in rebounds, blocks, and steals while also putting up the second most points, 16, behind Ashley Schroeder who scored 21. Alesia Hamm earned 5 points in the victory while also collecting 6 rebounds and a steal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Medaille came out hot tonight running a full court press against the Hawks which smothered them early. The first quarter of the game was dominated by free throws, both teams made it into bonus with 5 minutes left in the quarter. This helped to keep Medaille in the game. Hilbert switched to a man defense towards the end of the first quarter and were too much offensively for Medaille forcing them to switch to a zone defense. The first quarter ended 13-12 in favor of the Hawks.
  • Hilbert's Macy Kisner was all over the court in the second quarter. She forced multiple turnovers leading to fast break layups. In just the first half Kisner earned 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals. She would end the game with a double-double scoring 16 points and earning 14 rebounds. This helped Hilbert go into the second half with a 27-23 lead.
  • Yet again right at the start of the half Macy Kisner would set the tone for the second half earning another steal and taking that for a free layup. The third quarter though was a great defensive battle. Medaille was still playing in a zone defense and they were forcing many shots from out wide.
  • The Hawks went into the fourth quarter with a 47-40 lead and they working their hardest to keep it. Ashley Schroeder came out hot scoring multiple 3's, getting assists and earning trips to the free throw line. The Hawk's outstanding performance at the line is what earned them the victory by going 21-24 in the second half.
