Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Kara Rehbaum

Kisner and Hamm Post Double-Doubles in 59-50 Loss

WOOSTER, OH - The Hilbert College Women's Basketball team started the game and ended the game in control, but it was the middle two quarters that hurt the Hawks as they dropped a 59-50 defeat to The College of Wooster in the Nan Nichols Classic tonight.

HIGHT LIGHTS

Alesia Hamm carried the Hawks for 40-minutes of hustle as she earned another double-double scoring 10 points along with grabbing 14 rebounds.  Macy Kisner led the Hawks with 23 points and 14 rebounds in 21 minutes as she and Hamm each finished with three steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Macy Kisner tallied 11 of Hilbert's 19 first-quarter points.  After an early miss during the Hawks' first offensive possession, Kisner was credited with a defensive steal which led to her full court score. Wooster drilled a 3-pointer on their next trip and held their only lead in the quarter, 3-2.  Alesia Hamm finished a 3-point play, Ashley Schroeder knocked down a jumper and Kisner went on an 8-0 run before Mackenzie Catan hit a 15-footer just before the quarter break lifting the Hawks 19-12.
  • Hilbert outlasted the Fighting Scot's rally when they sliced the margin to one point on two occasions.  But two quick fouls by the Hawks turned into a four-point swing – the offensive possession Hilbert lost and the two free throws made at the other end, as Wooster took a 26-25 lead with 2:32 on the game clock. Monica Allen made a layup inching Hilbert closer but the Scots connected for an easy two and built a 30-27 advantage at the break.
  • The Fighting Scots hit back-to-back shots from beyond the arc taking a 9-point lead after two scoreless minutes at the start of the third quarter.  Allen and Hamm lifted Hilbert emotionally with buckets, responding to Wooster's run.  Jocelyn Poindexter was credited with two blocked shots on defense and Hamm did everything she could in the third, quarterbacking the team for 10 minutes.  But the hosts closed the quarter with a pair of shots from downtown setting the 48-33 score after 30 minutes.
  • Schroeder made two at the foul line, and Belle Oakley responded with a pair at the charity stripe while Kisner continued to clear the offensive glass midway through the final quarter.  Kisner's made free throw after her bucket sliced the margin to 11 points with 6:36 on the clock.  The Scots went on a 5-0 run before Kisner tallied nine of Hilbert's final 10 points in the game.
GAME NOTES
  • The Hawks were unable to score from the 3-point line, while the Fighting Scots picked up eight extra points there, going 8-for-26 beyond the arc.
  • Hilbert got Wooster in foul trouble each quarter and made 14-of-19 attempts from the foul line.  The Hawks built an edge in rebounding (54-42) with a 22-13 advantage on the offensive glass and a 20-6 difference in second chance points;  they were credited with 11 steals and only 13 fouls, but low scoring in the second and third quarters hurt the Hawks in the long run.
UP NEXT

The Hawks (0-3) will face Alma University at 1pm on Sunday in day two of the Nan Nichols Classic hosted by Wooster.
