Hawks Fall to Alma - Kisner Named to All-Tournament Team

WOOSTER, OH - The Hilbert College Women's Basketball team closed the weekend with a 74-55 loss to Alma University in the Nan Nichols Classic hosted by The College of Wooster today.

Macy Kisner joined Taylor Sas (Alma), Elal Biondi and Harley Holloway (Wooster) as well as Emily Plachita (Case Western Reserve) on the 5-person All-Tournament Team.  Case Western Reserve's Kayla Characklis was named the tournament MVP.

HIGHT LIGHTS

The big three from Hilbert, Alesia Hamm, Ashley Schroeder and Macy Kisner, averaged 36 minutes of court time, but their efforts were not enough in defeat.  Hamm (9 rebounds)  led in shooting percentage, going 5-for-7 from the field and 7-for-9 from the foul line while scoring 17 points.  Schroeder (7 rebounds) tossed in 12 points and Kisner (9 rebounds) added six points.  All three led with three offensive rebounds each as the Hawks collected 35 total rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Alma jumped out to a 7-point lead before Kisner got the Hawks on the scoreboard.  The Scots hit their second 3-pointer in the game's first three minutes and then built a double digit lead before Schroeder's 3-point play made it a 12-5 score.  The Scots struck again from downtown, and then the Hawks found their motivation.   Hilbert pulled within five thanks to four points from Kisner, a layup by Mackenzie Catan and one free throw by Kelsey Schlagenhauf with 1:52 remaining in the quarter.
  • The Hawks, trailing 21-14, scored the first bucket in the second session, and then went cold from the floor.  Hamm tossed in Hilbert's remaining four points of the quarter as they were outscored 18-6 before intermission, trailing 41-20.
  • Two Hilbert buckets at the start of the third quarter sliced the margin to 15, but consistency by the Scots allowed them to stretch their lead to 25 points by the start of the fourth quarter.
  • Both teams traded buckets for several minutes before Hilbert was able to cut it under 20 points with 3:42 remaining after Schroeder hit a jumper in the paint.
 GAME NOTES
  • All 12 players saw court time today with 11 contributing in some way to the statsheet.
  • The Hawks finished the game hitting 36.8-percent from the floor, and 72.3-percent from the foul line without connecting from the 3-point line.
  • Alma converted at a 47.6-percent rate from the floor, made 11-of-30 3-point attempts and hit all three free throw attempts.
