CANTON, N.Y. - The Hilbert College Hawks women's ice hockey team took on the Kangaroos of SUNY Canton for the second day in a row at Roos' House.
The Hawks capitalized on a chance halfway through the first period when
Abby Dawson netted her first goal at Hilbert College. The Finlandia transfer is consistently applying pressure on the forecheck and was rewarded for her efforts on a beautiful shot that beat the Roos' netminder. Dawson was named player of the game by the coaching staff.Â
The Hawks goalies
Cassie Troy and
Tia Card saved a collective 48 shots evenly with Troy stopping 24 in the first period and Card stopping 24 in the second and third periods.
"I remember reading a publication titled
The Grit Test by Angela Duckworth. I thought I knew what grit meant until I watched what this team endured on the ice this weekend. I'm sure to some extent they understand what they're doing skating with a short bench, but they're also competing against these teams. They never quit and that's what makes them special" said Coach Klubek after the game.
Canton tallied 6 goals in the first and 5 in the second. The final score was 11-1.
Up Next: Hilbert College will host #13 ranked SUNY Cortland outdoors at Buffalo Riverworks on November 22nd.
