Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey | | Cole Klubek

Hawks Hockey History

READING, P.a. – The Hilbert College Hawks ice hockey program took the ice for their first ever NCAA DIII matchup on the road against the Alvernia University Golden Wolves.

The Hawks offense capitalized on one of their final offensive chances in the game when Abby MacNeil ripped her first collegiate goal top shelf to break up the shutout for Alvernia. MacNeil's first goal is also the first ever goal for Hilbert College. Kirsten Kyte gets credited with the first ever Hilbert assist. MacNeil also had a shot hit the post early in the game when it was 0-0.

Tia Card was phenomenal in net saving 86% of the shots she faced. While every milestone will likely be historic for the Hawks during their first season, a 70-save game will likely be hard to beat by any future Hawks netminder. Card was named player of the game by the coaching staff.

The Alvernia coaching staff had strong words of encouragement and admiration for the first-year program's competitiveness. The Hilbert coaching staff is extremely exited by the work ethic of their team.

Up Next – After taking a tour of Hersheypark tomorrow morning, the Hawks will be playing Lebanon Valley College at Hersheypark Arena with a 2PM start time.
