Women's Soccer Hosts Houghton in Home Opener

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert women's soccer team found themselves down by three goals at intermission and couldn't dig out of the deep hole before the final horn.  Houghton College earned a non-conference, shut-out victory in the Hawks' Home Opener this afternoon.

THE BASICS
  • Final Score:  Houghton 4  I  Hilbert   0
  • Location: Hawks Varsity, Hamburg, NY
  • Records:  Highlanders 5-2-1  I  Hawks  0-3-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Houghton notched the game's first score in the 7th minute off a cross from the deep left corner which found the back of the net.
  • Hilbert was competitive through the next 20-minutes, limiting looks on frame.
  • The Highlanders connected twice, just over seven minutes apart late in the first half, which gave the guests a 3-goal lead by the break.
  • Houghton converted on a mis-played ball about 40 yards out and snuck one past the Hawks' keeper at 72:24 for the final score in the second half.

GAME NOTES
  • The Hawks looked to F Macy Kisner up top as she went one on one/ one on two multiple times but most were broken up by the Highlanders' back line.  She led Hilbert with three shots, one on goal in the 72 minutes of action.
  • Amber Stuck played tough through the midfield looking to win balls and push the action forward while Courtney Geier broke-up plays before Houghton was able to get deep in scoring territory.
  • Houghton built a 26-6 advantage in shots, many fueled by strong kicks outside the 40.
  • Tahlia Kosek was credited with four saves in 65:38 minutes and Haylee Jozwiak, who saw her first minutes this season, made two saves.
