DiSanti Belts Two Home Runs In Hawks Split At Pitt-Greensburg

GREENSBURG, Pa. - The Hilbert baseball team moved their AMCC doubleheader at Pitt-Greensburg up a week due to some postponements, setting up a pivotal conference matchup. The Hawks fought hard all day, falling 9-8 in game one before responding with a 10-7 win in game two.

Game One

Hilbert exploded with four runs in the top of the first. Frank McCabe, Misael Guzman Caez and James DiSanti each reached base safely to start the game. Two batters later Jonathan Wilson sent a deep fly ball over the centerfielders head for a 3-RBI triple. Wilson was later driven in off a Colton Davis single to put the Hawks up 4-0 early.

The Bobcats responded with a run in the bottom of the second, but the Hawks responded in the top of the third with a run of their own off another RBI single from Davis to knock in Wilson again.

Pitt-Greensburg would tack on eight unanswered (four unearned) over the next three frames to take a 9-5 lead into the seventh, but Hilbert wouldn't go down easy. James DiSanti belted a 3-run home run to cut the deficit to one, but it wasn't enough as the Hawks would fall 9-8.

Misael Guzman Caez took the loss on the mound after allowing six runs (two earned) over four innings. Jonathan Wilson paved the way on offense going 2 for 4 with a double, triple, two runs scored and three RBI.

Game Two

The night cap saw a pitchers duel through the first four innings between Josh McTigue and the Bobcats starter Joey Fracek. McTigue guided the royal and white to a 2-1 lead through four.

In the top of the fifth, James DiSanti came to the plate with Frank McCabe on base and sent a no doubter over the left field fence for a towering 2-run shot to put the Hawks up 4-1.

Both teams would trade runs over the next three innings to put the Hawks up 10-7 late. Hilbert would turn to freshman Brendan Walsh with two outs in the seventh. The right-hander slammed the door shut, tossing 2.1 shutout innings in relief to help McTigue to his first win of the season.

Hilbert (4-8, 1-3) are back in action Tuesday as they host Pitt-Bradford in a conference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 1pm.
