HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Alfred State jumped out to a 21-9 advantage after the first 10 minutes of play.   Hilbert responded in the second quarter, outscoring the Pioneers 17-14 and carried that effort into the third session building a 13-7 gain that led to a 42-39 score by the start of the final quarter.  But after five minutes of scoreless action, Hilbert slipped into a 19-point hole before scoring their first point at 4:16.  They then traded buckets with the host through the final minutes of the road game.
  • The Hawks took care of the ball in the first quarter and gave themselves opportunities on offense, but they just struggle to find the bottom of the net.  Hilbert went 5-of-6 at the foul line and made two jumpers from the floor.
  • Hilbert turned things around in the second session, matching basket-for-basket with the Pioneers.  After six and a half minutes of play, the Hawks pulled within seven points after Kisner went 2-for-2 at the foul line.  Alfred State went back up by nine points just before the half time buzzer after Hilbert committed their only turnover in the second quarter.
  • Grace Zabawa knocked down a 3-pointer pulling Hilbert within six after intermission which the Hawks held onto for the next five minutes.  ASC stretched their lead to nine (42-33).  Schroeder and Zabawa combined for the quarter's final seven points and set the 42-39 score after three quarters.
  • When Hamm connected from the foul line at 4:16, she broke Alfred State's 16-point run in the fourth quarter.
  • Both teams traded scores the rest of the game and settled into the 65-46 final.

GAME NOTES
  • For the fourth consecutive game, Hilbert grabbed double figure offensive rebounds.  They were credited with 40 total and 13 as follow-up rebounds to their own field goal attempts.
  • The Hawks committed a season-low 12 turnovers but finished the game hitting 16-62 shots (.258) with a pair from beyond the arc.
  • Grace Zabawa added eight points hitting both deep shots from the floor.
  • The Pioneers had two players notch a double-double with a third reaching double figure scoring.  They held a 50-40 advantage on the glass and made 27-67 field goal attempts (.403).
