Hawks Suffer AMCC Loss to Behrend

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert College opened the AMCC portion of their basketball schedule tonight when they hosted Penn State Behrend in the Hafner Recreation Center.
 
The Hawks offensive slowed late in the game as the Lions continued to light it up from everyone on the court enroute to the 83-62 road win.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Edward Perez lifted Hilbert with his first career double double after scoring 12 points, hitting 50-percent from the floor, and securing 11 rebounds with seven pulled on the offensive glass.  He chipped in two blocks and made both free throw attempts in 30 minutes off the bench.
  • Shawn Gashi led the Hawks with 15 points, also connecting at the 50-percent clip from the floor.
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • After falling behind by five points early in the game, Hilbert rallied back and closed the gap to one point, 11-10 off a Gashi layup.
  • The Hawks pulled within one again (13-12) but soon found themselves down by a double figure lead (27-16) after the Lions started to warm up from the 3-point line.
  • Behrend teetered on the 10-point lead for the next seven minutes until Perez found the bottom of the net at 1:16. 
  • Shaheem Ellis entertained the crowd with a late-half 3-point shot which pulled the Hawks within five at the break.
  • Hilbert continued their run after intermission and cut the margin to 40-37 after Elijah Powell found room in the paint, but that was as close as the Hawks would get the rest of the game.
  • Penn State Behrend continued to run patterns and find the open look as they used mini-runs to establish the pace of the game.
  • After falling behind by nine, Michael Pollard's four quick points brought the Hawks within five again but Hilbert cooled from the floor as the Lions went on multiple runs.
  • Behrend closed the game outscoring the Hawks 30-13 establishing their largest lead (76-54) before the final horn.

GAME NOTES
 
  • Hilbert was whistled for 14 turnovers and Behrend built a 17-6 margin in points off turnovers.
  • After shooting 47.2-percent from the floor in the opening half, Hilbert cooled to a 34.6-percent effort.
  • Behrend, after hitting 42.9-percent the first 20 minutes, turned up the heat and improved to 56.7-percent the second half.
  • The Hawks went to the foul line 12 times and made seven while the Lions went 12-14 at the charity stripe.
  • Michael Pollard chipped in eight points and four rebounds and Shaheem Ellis added a pair of deep shots for his six points.
