Bengals Hold Hawks In Check

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The women's basketball team, playing their fourth game in eight days, dropped a 73-56 non-conference game at cross-town rival Buffalo State College tonight.

THE BASICS              
  • Final Score:  Buffalo State 73 | Hilbert 56

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Macy Kisner led the Hawks, scoring 14 points while grabbing nine rebounds and three steals.
  • Tashawni Cornfield tossed in 27 points while Katie Vilarni added 23 points, 10 rebounds and five assists for Buffalo State College.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Buffalo State jumped out to a nine-point lead after the first quarter.  The Bengals went on a 13-4 run forcing the Hawks into four turnovers in that span.
  • Macy Kisner's 3-point make at 8:11 sliced the margin back to 10 points, but the hosts maintained their control on the scoreboard the rest of the way setting a 35-24 score by the break.
  • Both teams continued to trade baskets the entire third quarter, with Hilbert battling back from as many as 19 points but never getting closer than 10.  Ashley Schroeder drilled a shot from downtown at 7:30 pulling Hilbert within the dime.
  • Hilbert scored a quarter-high 18 points in the final session, but gave up 20 to Buffalo State.  Six different Hawks scored in the 10-minute quarter highlighted by Kisner's six points.
     
GAME NOTES
  • Hilbert finished the game hitting 34.6-percent of their field goal attempts and hit 14-of-18 free throws.  The Hawks grabbed 38 rebounds and committed 26 turnovers.
  • Buffalo State converted 38.7 percent from the field, made only 10-of-19 free throws but controlled the glass, pulling down 44 rebounds while committing 22 turnovers.
  • BSC held a 29-13 advantage in points off turnovers, 48-20 in points in the paint and 20-8 in fast break points.
 
WHAT'S NEXT


The Hawks finally have a few days off from competition since they don't play again until Friday, November 19 when they travel to Morrisville, N.Y. for a two-day Classic hosted by Morrisville State. Hilbert will battle the host November 19 and will face SUNY Poly the next day on Sunday, November 20.
