Third Quarter Slump Hurt Hawks at Oswego

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Hilbert College battled through three quarters tonight but a slow start after intermission was too much to overcome as the women's basketball team dropped a 72-58 non-conference game at Oswego.

THE BASICS
  • Final Score:  Oswego 72 | Hilbert 58
  • Location: Max Ziel Gym, Oswego, NY
  • Records: Hawks 0-3 | Lakers 1-1
HIGHLIGHTS

Two Hawks earned double-doubles tonight with Alesia Hamm leading the way in points (16) and rebounds (11).  Macy Kisner tacked her second D-D in three games this season after pairing 15 points with 10 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Hawks knotted the game at 4-all after Ashley Schroeder efforts with the ball early in the game and then Macy Kisner went on a 10-point run pulling Hilbert within a bucket with just over three minutes left  in the quarter.
  • Alesia Hamm' seven points closed the opening session with Hilbert up (23-22) at the start of the second quarter.
  • The Hawks exploded with a 7-2 run at the start of the second session, building their largest lead (30-24) just 2.5 minutes in.
  • Three lead changes later, after twice knotting the score, the Hawks found themselves down at the break, 40-36.
  • Oswego went on a 12-0 run after the break, and, at 3:46, Hamm's hit broke the Laker scoring trend.  Hamm finished a play with a layup and then went 1-for-2 at the foul line to earn all five Hilbert third-quarter points.
  • Oswego built a 68-45 advantage just three minutes into the final session.  The Hawks trimmed the 23-point margin and capped the come-back effort with a 3-point basketball by Abigail O'Hara with just over four minutes left.
  • Both teams traded hoops the rest of the way and settled in for the 72-58 finish.

GAME NOTES
  • Hilbert finished the game converting 34.2 percent of their field goal attempts, made four 3-pointers and attempted only five free throws.  The Hawks were credited with 46 rebounds, 14 on the offensive glass.
  • Oswego hit 36.0 percent of their shots from the field, made three 3-pointers but went to the foul line 28 times, making 15.  The Lakers pulled down 23 offensive rebounds, finishing with 56 total.
  • Oswego held a 20-7 advantage in 2nd chance points and 42-30 in points in the paint.  The hosts also earned 11 more points than Hilbert from the foul line as two Hawks were disqualified for fouls.
