Cardinals Clip the Hawks

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's basketball team slipped in their home-opener last night when they lost to St. John Fisher College, 86-25,  in the Hafner Recreation Center.

THE BASICS
  • Final Score:  St. John Fisher 86 | Hilbert 25
  • Location:   Hafner Recreation Center, Hamburg, NY
  • Records: Cardinals 1-0 | Hilbert 0-2

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hawks challenged Fisher for the full 10-minute opening quarter.  Hilbert's pressure defense and attacking attitudes caught the Cardinals off guard early in the game.
  • SJFC turned up their intensity in the second quarter and their pressure and run-and gun-style of play started to take its toll mentally and physically as the game progressed.
  • After falling behind by five points at the start of the second quarter (13-8), Hilbert was challenged to execute at both ends of the floor.
  • Fisher added 20+ points in each of the final three quarters while limiting the Hawks to a combined 17 points in the final three quarters.
GAME NOTES
  • Macy Kisner led the Hawks with 11 points, three steals, and six rebounds.  Ashley Schroeder led all players on the court with 33 minutes of action, scoring six points and also swiping three steals.
  • The Cardinals forced 33 Hilbert turnovers which limited their looks at the basketball for offensive chances.
  • Hilbert made 9-of-40 shots from the field and hit 5-of-7 at the foul line.  The Hawks pulled down 28 rebounds and were credited with four blocked shots and nine steals.
  • Fisher sank 44.3 percent of their shots from the field, hit 50-percent from downtown (9-18) and finished with 48 rebounds (19 offensive) and 17 steals.
