HAMBURG, N.Y. – Trailing by a two-goal margin at the break, the Hilbert College women's soccer team came out with a passion in the second half.
After making it a winnable game again with an early second period goal, the Hawks gave up one more hit to the Lions and slipped in their final home game of the 2019 season.
Penn State Altoona (7-8-2) improved to 5-4-1 in AMCC action after they held on for the 3-1 win and secured their place in the post-season tournament which begins next weekend.
Hilbert (1-12, 1-8) will close their season with a road game next Tuesday, October 29th (7:30 pm) at Penn State Behrend who holds a 7-1-1 AMCC record.
Altoona got on the board early in the game's first five minutes of play. The Hawks played even with the Lions although they gave up a chipped shot over
Brianna Stegmeier in the 36th minute which built the 2-0 score by intermission.
Morgan Cotton fed
Grace Zabawa a nice ball in front of the net, slicing the led in half at 47:19, but Altoona picked up their final goal late in the game for the 3-1 win.
Stegmeier earned her seventh double-digit save game as she finished with 11 in the full 90-minute run.
Zabawa led the Hawks with a pair of shots on goal and
Amber Stuck (2),
Jessica Ryckman and
Angelia Johnson were credited with shots.
