Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Late Rally Falls Short for Hawks

BRADFORD, Pa – Pitt-Bradford held on for a 78-75 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference win over Hilbert College in men's basketball and with the loss, the Hawks (8-2) suffered their first AMCC defeat this season.  Bradford evened their league record at 2-2 and inches closers to .500 at 5-6 overall.

Jordan Kumro tallied 19 points but fueled the Hawks big second-half come-back.  The senior guard connected on all four shots beyond the arc to post 16 second-half points.  Freshman Malique McCoy responded with 30 solid minutes in his first start of the season and produced a 16 point match (12 in second half).

Trevor Stark added 15 points making all ten free throws while dishing out five assists and Chris Davidson matched Starks 15 markers hitting five of his seven shots.

Eric Matheson led the Panthers with 22 points and four assists as Keith Burgess followed right behind with 21.

Hilbert opened with a two-point lead after Jerame Owens hit his first shot just 15-seconds into the game.  Bradford took the lead off a traditional three-point play their first possession only to have Chris Davidson bounce it back in the Hawks favor with a lay-up in the paint.

Trevor Stark and Jordan Kumro hit a pair of 3's while Davidson and Xavier Major marked the score-board for points in the paint.  After that scoring burst, the Hawks went cold from the field.  Bradford slowly stretched their lead to 13 points by 5:39 and went to locker room with a 46-35 advantage.

The Panthers held the Hawks at bay until back-to-back three's by McCoy and Kumro cut the difference to 8 points at 13:32 (56-48).

Bradford scored their last bucket at 4:37 (76-67) and held their breath as they survived.  Hilbert went 6-for-8 at the line but mis-fired their last shot at the buzzer in the loss.

Bradford led the Hawks from the field (44.9% - 40%) but Hilbert was better from long distance making  9 of 17 (52.9%).  The royal and white out-rebound the Panthers 38-33 yet they turned the ball over six more times than Bradford who finished with 8 steals.

Hilbert returns to action this weekend when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pa for their next AMCC match against La Roche January 10 at 4pm.
