PITTSBURGH, Pa –
Trevor Stark joined Hilbert College's 1,000 point club midway through the contest before he willed his team to a 75-70 overtime road victory at La Roche College January 10. Stark scored six of Hilbert's 11 overtime points to direct the Hawks to their 5th league win and keep them in 2nd place in the AMCC league.
La Roche (1-11, 1-4) took an early lead in the game before Hilbert went on a 7-0 run, to take a 26-23 lead. La Roche knotted the game at 26 all before
Jerame Owens scored three of Hilbert's last four buckets to close the half 35-30.
Hilbert (9-2, 5-1) extended their lead to eight points by 15:40 in the second half but La Roche responded with every offensive possession and never let the game get away from them the rest of the way. The Redhawks cut the difference to one point but super-shooter
Jordan Kumro knocked down a three to give the royal and white a 50-46 lead again.
At exactly 10 minutes on the clock,
Trevor Stark was credited with a jump shot to post his 1,000 point in his Hilbert career and gave Hilbert a 52-48 advantage.
After Owen's lay up at 4:55, the Redhawks held the Hawks scoreless for over three minutes. In that time, La Roche went on a 6-0 run to take a two point lead at 1:49. Both teams traded buckets to the final horn.
Stark opened OT with a lay-up and Kumro extended the lead to five with a long distance make. Just as La Roche was catching up, Stark found the bottom of the net again prior to
Ryan Bradt's lay-up with 0:11 on the clock (73-70). Stark finished with two freebies at the foul line for the road win.
Jerame Owens, who was a big factor in the win, lead with 21 points and five rebounds. Stark posted 15 points and added eight assists while
Jordan Kumro stated 14 points, five rebounds and two steals.
Sean Weisansal returned to action and scored 12 points hitting 5-of-8 shots while passing for six assists and credited with two blocks.
La Roche's Arnes Bajgora led all scorers with 30 points making 10 of 15 shots from the floor and hitting all nine foul shots. Zaire Redding reached for 15 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
