Box Score PITTSFORD, N.Y. – It was a tough day for the women's volleyball team as the Hawks from Hilbert College suffered two losses in the first day of competition at the Golden Flyer Invite September 5. The Hawks fell in three straight sets to both Medaille College at 2pm and RIT at 8pm. Hilbert returns to action September 6 when they face Buffalo State and Fredonia State to close out the invitational.
Hilbert had their best hitting performance in the opening game against Medaille. The Hawks were credited with 32 kills (.206) but they were also tagged with only one service ace (season low) and nine service errors. Medaille escaped with a 25-22 first set victory and pulled away with a 25-18 and 25-12 match.
Amanda Binder (12) and
Jordan Botsford (10) were the Hawks main hitters at the net.
Crystal Swanson had her first double digit assist game (13) while Botsford and
Chelsea Adamski kept play alive with 13 and 11 digs respectively.
In the second game, played six hours after the start of the first game, Hilbert ended the day with their worst hitting performance this year. The Hawks connected for a season-low 19 kills with 23 errors (-.045) to RIT, who only secured 20 kills yet a high-number of hitting errors as well (15).
Binder again led with seven kills, but Adamski's .133 hitting percentage led the offensive attack.
Kayla Lewis earned team-high nine assists for Hilbert who passed for three more team assists than RIT (16 vs. 13). RIT won the first two sets (25-17, 25-14) before Hilbert challenged in the final set (25-23).
