Box Score

COLUMBUS, OH – The Hilbert College women's lacrosse team went down in a 21-8 defeat to Capital University April 5.  The Crusaders took over the game in the second half outscoring the Hawks 12-3 as they improved to 7-1 overall.  Hilbert dropped to 2-6 after they split their games on the road this weekend.

Capital was consistent in their effort on the field, but they became more efficient in the second half apparent by the lopsided goal scoring.  The Crusaders outshot the Hawks (50-12) with 31 of their attempts credited as 'shots on goal'.  Stephanie Glaza produced another double-digit save performance making 10 saves during the sixty-minute game.

The Hawks worked hard and stayed with the Crusaders in ground balls, trailing by only two pick-ups (35-33) but the home team went to frame more often  winning 22 of the 30 draw controls and getting 17 free-position shots (to Hilbert's 3).

Chantelle Mikolajczak, Breana Cline and Megan Smith netted two goals apiece while Nikki Schneider assisted twice.   Jordan Botsford earned a game-high seven ground balls followed closely by Schneider's six.

Hilbert converted two of their three free position shots (Mikolajczak and Cline) while Capital scored on 9 of 17 attempts.

Megan Smith cut the four-goal run Capital made to start the game.  Less than 45-seconds later, the Crusaders slid one past Glaza again for the 5-1 lead by 16:26. The Hawks and Crusaders matched each other's effort the rest of the half.  Cline took a Kylie Reinholz pass to the net to start an alternating team-scoring situation through to intermission.

Capital held a 9-5 lead to start the second half and maintained their four-goal lead after Mikoljczak scored at 26:31. The Crusaders cruised the rest of the half with multiple-goal runs as they played the half in a 'man-up' situtation for the final 25-minutes.  Smith and Mikoljczak broke the home-team rally with man-down goals in the period as the game ended in a 21-8 final score.

Hilbert returns to Hamburg with excitement of hosting their first home game of the season Tuesday, April 8th.  The Hawks will battle Medaille College at 4pm and invite all the student-athletes to sit in the Hawks Nest and support their efforts during the DIII Week-long celebration.
