HAMBURG, N.Y. – the Hilbert College softball team picked up their first AMCC sweep of the season against Franciscan University April 26th.  The Hawks beat the Barons 6-1 in the opening game and came back on fire in the second to claim a 13-0 five inning sweep.  The Hawks honored their four seniors (Kateland Ball, Brittany Hancy, Eliza Stringham and Natalie Whitman) before the game and celebrated their victories after.

Kateland Ball had a big day going 3 for 7 with 2 triples, a double and knocked in 5 runs along with a stolen base.  Amanda Binder gave Hilbert a bases-clearing home run to build a big lead which Franciscan had no answer for.

The first game found the Hawks leading 1-0 thru 3 innings.  Then in the 4th, Kateland Ball's 2RBI triple posted more points on the score boards.  Rachel Collier hit a home run as the second batter in the 5th inning to give Hilbert one more run in the bottom half and the final runs scored in the sixth were generated from Kateland Ball again.  She posted an RBI double which sent Crystal Hailey home just after she stole second base.  Ball then stole third and a pass-ball gave her time to come home for the final 6-1 score.

Rachel Collier finished 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and Crystal Hailey was 2 for 3 with 2 stolen bases.

Victoria Dzaak threw a complete 7 inning game giving up three hits and one run while striking out 6 Barons.

The second game's offense picked up where the first game left off.

Amanda Binder (in front page photo) got herself in a jam but made it out just fine, hitting a grand-slam home run to push the lead to 8-0 in the 2nd inning.  The freshman DH was 3 for 3 knocking in 6 runs on the day.

Ball's 2RBI triple in the 3rd started the scoring again for Hilbert.  Collier's sac fly scored Ball and then two more hits scored two more runs for the final 13-0 score in the 3rd inning.

Jaelyn Gotham picked up her second win of the season.  She covered the complete five innings in the circle throwing down seven strikes while giving up just two hits.

Hilbert finished the game with only six hits but scored 13 runs.  Binder's bases-clearing homer helped the Hawks, but Franciscan's pitcher finished the game with seven walks, five in a row setting up the six-run 2nd inning for Hilbert.

The Hawks (4-21, 3-15 AMCC) have one game left on their schedule at this point.  They travel to Houghton College Tuesday, April 29th for a 3 pm DH.
