Kristi Mergenhagen's five goals gave the Hilbert College women's lacrosse team a huge lift in their 12-9 road loss to Cazenovia College today. The Hawks closed out their 2014 season with a 3-8 overall record in their second season of varsity status.
Robbi Bailey scored the game's first goal just 31-seconds into the game as Hilbert held their only lead for the day. Cazenovia went on a five goal tear spanning a twenty-minute time frame before Mergenhagen netted her first goal at 3:10. The Wildcats closed out the half with two tallies for a 7-2 lead.
The Hawks outscored the hosts 7-5 in the second half with Mergenhagen scoring Hilbert's first two and last two goals in the period.

Kelly Mandell and
Harlie Decker's scores were sandwiched between the Mergenhagen show.
Cazenovia held the upper hand statistically. They took seven more shots than Hilbert (25-18), held a 15 ground ball advantage (41-26) while Hilbert won 10 draw controls compared to the Wildcats' nine.
Mergenhagen was perfect from the field scoring five goals off her five shots.
Jordan Botsford lead the Hawks with four ground balls while
Megan Smith earned game-high eight draw controls.
Stephanie Glaza picked up her fourth double-digit save game. The rookie stopped 10 shots in sixty minutes of play.
With the loss of
Robbi Bailey and
Kristi Mergenhagen to graduation, the Hawks will have big shoes to fill. Coach Erin Robson is working hard to build the roster and continue to add talent to the royal and white.
