BUFFALO, N.Y. – Big scoring innings by Medaille College led to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference double header sweep over Hilbert College in softball April 10.  The Mavericks opened the day with a 13-3 victory before they won the second 10-4.  The Hawks dropped to -0-4 while Medaille took their first league games at McCarthy Park in North Buffalo.

Rachel Collier reached for two doubles and Natalie Whitman posted a single double while grabbing a stolen base in the opening game, but that was it for the Hawks offensive power.

Erin Smith singled her first at-bat and made it home after Collier's double as the clean-up hitter.  Then the bottom fell out as the Mavericks posted 10 runs all off single baggers in the bottom of the first inning.

Hilbert had a 2-run rally in the 3rd which started with Brittany Hancy reaching first off an error.  Collier hit her second RBI double and made it home when Whitman knocked her double to the outfield.  Whitman tried to make it home, and stole third but was stranded when Amanda Binder flew-out the 2nd base. 

Jaelyn Gotham faced 27 batters giving up 11 hits in the loss.

Hilbert gave up five early runs in the bottom of the first and didn't reach the score board until the top of the third.  Kateland Ball's RBI double sent Crystal Hailey home as the second batter of the inning.  Eliza Stringham returned the favor and knocked Ball home with her hit.

Medaille added a run in the 4th which was followed by two Hilbert runs in the 5th.   Stringham hit her second single RBI pushing Hailey home.  Ball made her way back to the dug-out after she scored on a right field error setting the score at 9-4.  The Mavericks sent one more run home closing the game at 10-4.

Victoria Dzaak threw 6 innings (41 batters) while giving up 16 hits.  She tossed seven strike-outs but also walked six Mavericks.

Hilbert (1-12) has a tough weekend as they host back to back AMCC DH games.  Penn State Altoona travels to Hamburg on April 12 and then following day Greensburg arrives for an early 11 am/1 pm set of games.
