Binder and Ball Have a Day

Kateland Ball Created a Stir in Softball
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Amanda Binder knocked in 5 RBI's and matched Kateland Ball with four hits on the day as Hilbert College softball went 0-2 March 10 in the Fastpitch Dreams softball tournament.

The Hawks (0-4) fought back in the morning game against Keystone College but a big sixth inning for the Giants secured their 14-9 victory over Hilbert.  Eureka College's pitchers were rock solid and didn't give Hilbert very many looks at the plate to claim a 10-0 win in five innings.

After Keystone took a 4-0 lead, Amanda Binder's single to center field sent Kateland Ball home as Hilbert responded with one run at the bottom of the third inning. The Giants added another two runs in the 5th to take a 6-1 lead.  But Binder came through again with her second double bagger that knocked in Crystal Hailey and Ball.  In that same inning, Jaelyn Gotham made it to first base on a passed ball which allowed the base runners to take-off.  Binder made it home on that miscue behind the plate to cut the score to 6-4.

Keystone padded their lead with eight runs over the next two innings.  Hilbert put together five runs behind the Stringham's double, Ball's single and two-Binder singles over the last two at bats.

Kateland Ball went 4 for 4 at the plate and scored three runs while Binder went 4 for 5 with 5 RBIs. Crystal Hailey scored twice as Eliza Stringham knocked in two runs, scoring one herself.

Gotham went 6.2 innings with one strike out and one walk.

Eureka College (WI) shut the Hawks down from the circle.  Their two hurlers tossed five innings of work to earn seven strike outs and with only two walks.  Elissa Hall and Erin Smith made it to first base late in the game after Eliza Stringham broke the seal when she travelled to second base due to a fielding error in the 4th.

Victoria Dzaak and Gotham shared duties in the circle with Dzaak taking the loss after 2.2 innings pitched.

The Hawks return to action March 11 when they take on Albert Magnus College beginning at 9:30 am.
