Women's Soccer Shutout Under Lights

BUFFALO, N.Y. – D'Youville College scored a goal each half to take a 2-0 win at home over Hilbert College in women's soccer October 8.

Hilbert's defense played well, only giving up one goal in live action and Grace Adams was credited with eight saves. But the Hawks weren't able to connect on offense and missed scoring opportunities which could have changed the outcome of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game. Hilbert (4-7) moved to 1-3 and D'Youville stayed a perfect 4-0 in league standings.

The Spartans scored what would be their game winning goal in the 34th minute when Emily Carias snuck one past Adams. D'Youville doubled-up the Hawks in shots on goal (6-3) and took a 1-0 lead at half time.

Robbi Bailey had two great scoring opportunities early in the second half. Bailey, running the left side of the field took a pass from Imarie Waller to the frame. That right-to-left serve flew off Bailey's foot just wide, outside the post at 49:55. Less than one minute later, a D'Youville player tripped over a trapped ball inside the box which awarded the hosts a penalty kick. Mallory Hojnacki went opposite Adams for the final score of the game.

Ten minutes later Bailey had a second great look at frame but came up empty as did Imarie Waller at 65:02.

The Hawks defensive core did a good job limiting the Spartan attack led by upperclassmen Kaitlyn Layman and Chelsea Olson. Grace Adams pulled in six second-half saves to keep the Hawks in the game.

Hilbert is on the road again this weekend when they travel to the Pittsburgh area to battle Pitt-Greensburg October 11. They return home the following weekend to host Franciscan University while honoring their senior women's soccer players.
