HAMBURG, N.Y. – Ja'Lynn Sanders delivered a dominant offensive performance with four goals as the Hilbert College women's soccer team earned a convincing 5-1 AMCC victory over Mount Aloysius on Saturday afternoon at Hawk Field.
The Mounties grabbed an early advantage just 2:20 into the match to make it 1-0. Hilbert answered quickly, leveling the score three minutes later when Acadia Evans converted a penalty kick in the 6th minute.
The Hawks took control from there behind the play of Sanders. The sophomore put Hilbert in front in the 14th minute off an assist from Valentine Hauser, then doubled the Hawks' lead with her second goal of the day in the 30th minute to send Hilbert into halftime with a 3-1 advantage.
Just 39 seconds into the second half, Sanders struck again, finishing a pass from Evin Stauffer to complete her hat trick and extend the lead to 4-1. She capped her remarkable afternoon with her fourth goal in the 85th minute, putting the finishing touch on Hilbert's highest-scoring output of the season.
Hilbert generated 16 shots, including eight on goal, while controlling play throughout much of the contest. Sanders led all players with eight shots and four goals, marking the most goals scored by a player in a single game in program history, while Evans added a goal of her own. Hauser and Stauffer each recorded assists in the win.
Defensively, goalkeeper Keira McFarland made two saves as the Hawks limited Mount Aloysius to just three shots on goal. Hilbert also held advantages in shots (16-12) and shots on goal (8-3).
