HAMBURG, N.Y. - The Hilbert Hawks women's volleyball team hosted the Lions from Penn-State Behrend in tonight's AMCC matchup. Penn-State Behrend went home with a win, claiming the first three sets (25-22, 25-17, 25-9). Jordan Botsford led the Hawks with seven kills.
In the first set, the Hawks came out with a strong start and held a 16-12 lead over the Lions. The Lions tied it up at 17 and eventually took the lead at 22-21. A service error by Hilbert extended Penn State Behrend's lead and the Lions went on to win 25-22. The Hawks finished the set with 8 kills, while Behrend raked in 15.
Again, in the second set, the Hawks gained a 5-0 lead but Behrend brought themselves back into the game through strong offensive plays and errors by Hilbert. With the scored tied at 14, the Lions used a couple of aces by Alyssa Samarco to extend their lead and pulled away at 19-14. Hilbert could not overcome the deficit and fell 25-17. Hilbert only had three hitting errors but still had four less kills than Behrend.
Penn State continued rolling into the third set, using three aces and hitting errors by the Hawks to take an 8-1 advantage. It continued to go downhill for the Hawks as the Lions ran away with a 25-9 win. Hilbert recorded nine errors in the set and only three kills.
Amanda Binder finished with six kills and six digs and Botsford added six digs of her own. Olivia Tom led the Hawks with seven digs, while Morgan Ott ended with 14 assists.
The Lions were led by Alyssa Samaro's ten kills and 14 digs. Meredith Snyder led all players with 17 assists.
The Hawks play this weekend in a tri-match at Buffalo State, where they will face St. John Fisher and Buffalo State.
