Big Win For Men's Soccer Over Wells

Coniglio throws ball into play for Eister (#13) and Barker (#19)
Box Score

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College men's soccer team took a 2-1 half time lead and shut-down Wells College in the second half charging to an impressive 5-1 victory. Junior Matt Hamister earned four-points, pushing his goal totals to five in the last three games. Rookie Daniel Pulaski scored once and assisted twice pushing the Hawks to 2-4 overall and dropping the Express to 5-1-1.

At 13:16, Hamister moved the goal backwards a few inches after he rifled a lefty from the top right side of the box. That shot hit the inside crossbar and bounced back out of the frame due to its velocity. The 1-0 celebration was short-lived as less than three minutes later, Wells bent the ball the opposite way that Jeremy Kraska played it. Jonathan Davison held onto the ball an extra step and fed a perfect pass to Daniel Pulaski for his first collegiate score. Hilbert rode a 2-1 lead into half time and held a 7-2 shot advantage.

Both teams were going at it to start the second half. A lot of battles were won down low with quick feet and body control sealing the opposing team's player off the ball. Hamister again powered his second goal in off a rebound shot that CJ Bayly didn't hold onto. At 66:28 Davison and Pulaski connected again, this time with Davison making a one-touch shot past the Express keeper. Junior –transfer Blake Barker netted his Hawk career first to finish the score for the day.

The defensive trio of senior Michael Gee, junior Tyler Coniglio and freshman Anthony Pellicano helped starve off a Wells come-back. And the constant attack offensively, took Wells out of their comfort zone, having already beat three Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponents before today's contest. (D'Youville, Pitt-Bradford and Medaille).

The Hawks open AMCC play this weekend when they host a 1p/3p double header game against Mount Aloysius.
